· Landmines: £1.5 to deploy, £500 to remove.

· 1,100 years & £17 billion to clear the 110 million landmines in 60 countries.

· Mine victims undergo 4 operations and need 4 times as much hospital recovery time.

· Amputations require the transfusion of 6 times as much blood as other operations

· Cost of crude prostheses (£60) versus monthly wage (£7.5).

· In Cambodia: 4 to 7 million mines unexploded, 1 out of 236 citizens is an amputee.


· Coste: fabricación 2.0€, desactivación 635€

· 1,100 años & 22 mil millones €, para desactivar 110 millones de minas en 60 países.

· Las víctimas de minas requieren 4 operaciones y 4 veces más de estancia hospitalaria.

· Las amputaciones requieren 6 veces más transfusiones de sangre que otras operaciones.

· Prótesis básica: 75€ . Salario mensual: 9.5€

· Camboya: 4 a 7 millones de minas activas, 1 de cada 236 ciudadanos es un amputado.

Our first 10km! - ¡Nuestros primeros 10km!

Well, we have had our first go at running 10km. On Saturday (March 8th) we went to Lincoln to try the race course (click on the photograph to see it). The final time for both of us was...

Bueno, pues ya hemos corrido nuestros primeros 10km. El sábado (08 Marzo) fuimos a Lincoln para probar el recorrido de la carrera (haz clic en la foto para verlo). El tiempo final para ambos fue de...


... 1 hour : 9min: 33s, not bad at all considering we took it easy and did not force the pace.

... 1 hora : 9 min : 33 s, lo cual no está nada mal si tenemos en cuenta que nos lo tomamos con tranquilidad y no forzamos la máquina.

In order to follow up the race course we used a winning combination of traditional methods and latest technologies. On one side, there you have Elena holding a printed copy of the route, or rather a half-printed copy, as our printer had run out of black ink and the name of the streets was inteligible. On the other side, there goes Sergio with his sat nav receiver hung aroung the neck and the PDA on his hand. Everything ok, until Jane (the sat nav's seductive voice) tells Sergio to turn left while the map- now rendered even more inteligible by sweat - seems to indicate a right turn... What a show!

Para ir siguiendo el recorrido empleamos una combinación ganadora de métodos tradicionales y últimas tecnologías. Por un lado tenemos a Elena llevando una copia impresa del recorrido, bueno, mas bien medio impresa, pues la tinta negra se había agotado en nuestra la impresora y el nombre de las calles era inteligible. Por otro lado, Sergio con su receptor de gps al cuello y la PDA en la mano. Todo bien, hasta que Jane (la seductora voz del gps) le indica a Sergio torcer a la izquierda cuando en el mapa - ahora aún mas inteligible debido al sudor- parece indicar que a la derecha... ¡Todo un espectáculo!

After we sprinted towards the finishing line, it was a bit discouraging to realize that the race course is not precisely "completely circular" meaning that.. we still had an extra 10min run back to the car!


Cuando al final llegamos a la "meta" tras el último sprint, nos desmoralizó un poco el darnos cuenta de que el circuito no es precisamente lo que se dice "completamente circular", y que por lo tanto... ¡todavía nos quedaban otros 10min de carerrilla para volver a donde habíamos aparcado el coche!

Lincoln 10km: We are "running away" / Hacemos otra "carrera"...

On Sunday 30th March we will both run the Lincon 10km road race. We have already started training hard for this. Nearer to the race date we will specify the challenge and, if you want, how you can sponsor us. El domingo 30 de Marzo los dos correremos los 10km de la carrera urbana de Lincoln. Ya hemos empezado a entrenar duro para esto. Cuando la fecha esté mas cercana especificaremos en que consiste el desafío y, si quereis, cómo podeis "esponsorizarnos". Mientras tanto, el último tiempo que hagamos lo pondremo en la cabezera del blog, también podeis comprobar todos nuestros progresos pulsando en la fofo de las "zapatillas de correr".
